Our story

Who is Mama Sita?

Teresita “Mama Sita” Reyes grew up amid the bustle of kitchens and marketplaces as the eldest child of Doña Engracia “Asiang” Reyes, the Grand Dame of Philippine Cuisine. Mama Sita learned from her mother how to cook and serve delicious and hearty Filipino food to family, friends, and the many patrons of their restaurant, The Aristocrat.

In the 1970s, in Chicago and Havana, Mama Sita saw how Filipinos far from home longed for food cooked the Filipino way. She urged her family to make it possible, beginning with a kare-kare mix prepared in the family’s ancestral home. Five generations on, her sauces and mixes carry the taste of the Philippines around the world.
