Now We’re Home
Finally, we’ve slowed down and are spending more time at home. Although Mama Sita’s Kitchen has been closed, we’ve taken home with us our crafty cooking skills. It has helped us focus on what matters most—our family and health. Cooking at home helps us put our time to good use and for a while forget what’s happening in this world. Because we have a family to feed, three times a day, on schedule, and a household to keep together. That’s a real job, which, if not for this lockdown, we’d normally hasten to do or take for granted.
Why the work of a homemaker is a test of many skills: Management—making sure everyone has a role and no one is left out, Accounting—sorting out finances and ensuring payments are on time, Internal and External Affairs—getting squabbling kids and grown-ups to make peace. Arts and Sciences—making DIYs and playing with kids. You can probably think of so much more.
No matter where we are in the world, the pandemic has surely affected us in some way. Perhaps some of us are missing the long walks we used to make outdoors without fear of anyone or anything. It is challenging to recreate a feeling of normalcy during this time of uncertainty. We’re all sort of marinating in our concerns these days, but since we’re home, let’s make the most out of it.
People have been cooking more these days, trying new recipes, and acquiring news skills, and requiring old ones like crafting and sewing or playing an instrument. This is a chance to do what we’ve been afraid or hesitating to do at home. Because who knows what’s going to happen in the next few weeks and months? To our dear fellows in the frontlines, thank you for helping keep humanity alive and this society running because you continue to do your jobs.
Stay safe and healthy!
